Scottish Harp

The harp belongs to Scotland, where some of the earliest known images of the instrument in Europe survive on Pictish stone slabs that date from the 7th century. As a professional lecturer for the UK Arts Society Sarah has a deep interest and love for the history of the Scottish harp, and has around two hours of traditional Scottish music that she can perform, including on the ancient wire-string Gaelic harp which has a particularly bright and magical sound. She has composed a set of original tunes for harp inspired by the scenery of the West Highlands and also performs historic harp tunes written by some of the early Scottish Harpers who roamed the Highlands in the 18th and 19th centuries.
